Eagle Park Grants & Development Planned!

Eagle Park Grants - Eagle Park soon under construction!

To get to Eagle Park (Currently undeveloped), take S. 2nd St. down to Sommerville Ave (in the south industrial area of town), turn left, and at the end of the road, take the right-hand driveway (dirt road) at the end of Sommerville Ave. Drive down the dirt/gravel road to the park. Knife River's property is surrounded by fencing, and the City Park is located on the right hand side of the road past the fence and the wetland pond on the right.

Northern Eagle Park:  Dog Park and .36 miles of trail!

Development will start this summer, as soon as the ground is workable, and heavy machinery won't get stuck in the ground.  (Likely late May or June).  The Dog Park will be started first, along with improvements to the existing .36 miles of recreational trails in the north section of the park.  This part of the development of Eagle Park is only possible due to a grant provided by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD); the grant in this location, along with the City match (mostly labor) is $139,485, with $75,000 in reimbursements.

MIddle & Lower Eagle Park:  Recreational Trails Program Grant!

The City was just informed that we've been approved for the entire Recrational Trails Program Grant we applied for!   This is a federal grant that is administered by the OPRD.  The amount requested was almost $150,000 from the State, with a total project amount of $196,486.  The funding for the City's match on this project is a combination of reserves saved for this purpose in Parks SDC's, and City Labor on the projects we have the ability to do.  That project won't be funded until the fall, and therefore, work will start in 2025 on this particular phase. This project includes a 1.02 mile Native Surface Trail, a .35 mile level ADA Trail on the east side of the eastern lower pond, and a .46 mile gravel pathway from the top of the big pond to the middle of the small ponds.  It also funds 3 trail heads, with parking, and signage, plus boulders/barriers to protect the infrastructure in Eagle Park.

Did you know that Parks SDC's can't be used in any other fund, so we can't apply it to the water bond project, even if we wanted to?  The work being done in Eagle Park is otherwise all paid by grants!

To see the conceptual designs and locations of the work planned for this summer, and for next year, please open the pdf document at the bottom of this webpage.  (This is the same presentation that was provided to the OPRD Advisory board.  The presentation includes pictures of different locations in the park.)
