Right of Way Permits
Right of Way Permits are required when a homeowner needs to perform work on a sidewalk or driveway, or needs to block off sidewalk access for any reason. For example, some owners might want to create a curb cut in order to access their back yards from the street, allowing a motorhome, boat, or trailer to be stored in the back, or you might just want to back your truck in to offload yard supplies. In any case, the City requires a right of way permit in order to protect the curbs and sidewalks from damage. If you are planning on always having access, which requires a curb cut, you must have permission from Public Works prior to starting work. If you simply are building a deck over a weekend, and need to drive a truck over the curb and into the yard, please file a permit and work with us before you do the work. We can look at the curb, and determine what kind of protection it might need in order to protect it.
Because the Public Works Director needs to review your application, and sometimes make a field visit, approval of the permit can take several days. We suggest turning it in a minimum of 4-5 days before your project.
Franchised Utility Companies must fill out the permit form, but will not be charged for that permit.
