Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan
The City participates in the Linn County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. The NHMP includes Linn County, as well as the cities of Halsey, Harrisburg, Lebanon, Lyons, Scio, Sodaville, Tangent and Waterloo. Undertaking hazard mitigation actions helps to reduce the potential for harm to people, property, and infrastructure within the City of Harrisburg.
In the Harrisburg Addendum, you'll find natural hazard risks that have been prioritized by City staff. The City has proposed actions and programs that are needed to mitigate the vulnerabilities of the City of Harrisburg to impacts of future disasters within the City and in our region.
The US Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has completed a pre-adoption review of the NHMP. Once all the cities have adopted the NHMP, then the plan is conveyed to them for final approval. The Cities that belong to this NHMP will then be eligible for mitigation project grants.
For further information in relation to the NHMP and other processes to protect our community, please contact the City Administrator, Brian Latta, the City Recorder/Asst. City Administrator Michele Eldridge, or Public Works Director Chuck Scholz.
