Harrisburg - Information in relation to WildFire Emergencies in our Region

Harrisburg is in an unlikely location that will need any kind of evacuation because we have no contiguous forest that leads to Harrisburg.  Any natural cover fire in Harrisburg would be in a relatively small confined area, with the exception of a structure fire which could be impacted by the weather conditions.  We also have an advantage due to the location of fire hydrants in the City.

The Harrisburg Fire/Rescue District does terrific work in taking care of Harrisburg citizens.....Assistant Fire Chief Leo Giles is currently leading Harrisburg Fire because Chief Griffith is fighting fires in the Santiam Canyon Fire.   Harrisburg has four crew members with two fire apparatus that are deployed to that fire.  As of earlier Wednesday, those crews are safe.

Asst. Chief Giles shares that he has confidence in the abilities of the Linn County Emergency Operations Center. They have a liaison with the Lane County fire incident manager on the Holiday Farms fire.  He noted that they are progressive in seeking out information and how that fire impacts Linn County.

"In Chief Griffith’s absence I am leading Harrisburg Fire. I have organized fire station coverage to ensure that we have a minimum of two people at the fire station over 24 hours. That is not a normal coverage since we rely solely on volunteers in the evenings but given the current fire danger I want to ensure that we have a quick response to any situation. Harrisburg Fire crews are periodically patrolling the city and the hill areas. Most of our Mutual Aid partners also have resources deployed to these unprecedented fires and this situation is not likely to change for many days or even weeks. I am in contact with Junction City Fire, Halsey-Shedd, and Coburg Fire. All are willing to help Harrisburg if necessary to the extent that they can.

We appreciate everybody helping to keep our community safe by not doing any activities that might propagate a fire. Up to now we have had no fire incidents in Harrisburg Fire District"
