Wiley Fire Information - Smoke lingering from Lookout and Bedrock Fires in Lane County
Harrisburg has had heavy smoke in our area that is now lessening. Most of the smoke is coming from the Bedrock and Lookout Fires in Lane County.
The Wiley Fire is located southeast of Sweet Home, near Buck Mountain (Cascadia), near Wiley Creek and Harris Road. The fire is burning on United States Forest Service Land, and is still 245 acres as of August 16, 2023. It is now 40% contained. Containment lines are in place, with hoses placed around 80% of the fire. Fire perimeters are holding well, and firefighters continue to increase depth. New teams will arrive to support this fire suppression effort so that local resources can be utilized elsewhere in our communities.
Green Peter Reservoir is now open for recreational uses. All evacuation orders have been lifted, although road closures remain in place. The Linn County EOC will be standing down on the 16th of August. The Linn County Fairgrounds Shelter has already been demobilized. A full burn-ban for Linn County has been instituted by the Linn County Fire Defense Board, and remains in place.
Please be assured that if fire or another emergency were to affect Harrisburg citizens inside the City limits, that an Emergency Operations Center would be located near to Harrisburg, and citizens would be informed. The best way to stay informed, is to install the LInn Benton Alert system to your smart phone.
